Lottery Application

Needs words

Interested in the Eagle Charter School for 2019-20

The Lottery Application to our public charter school is open to all residents of Oregon. Admission is limited to 24 students for our incoming Kindergarten class and any openings in the other grades. Student acceptance is based on a lottery.

We do not admit any students after Spring Break each year. If you’re interested in enrolling your child in the current school year, please contact the school office. If there is space available, you will be notified of an opportunity to enroll after we receive your application. If there is not space available, your student will be placed on our waiting list and will be included in the lottery next year.
The deadline for applications for this year’s lottery is TBD.
---Fix below date---
The lottery will be held TBD.
At the lottery meeting, we will draw names randomly to fill any available spots in our classes and to form our waiting lists. The lottery meeting is a public meeting, but you are not required to be present.

Being Notified

After the lottery meeting, we will notify families via email within a week about their spot in the school or their rank on the waiting list. We will offer you no more than one week to make a decision about taking the spot in the school. During that time, if school is in session, you and/or your child may visit the school. As we work our way through waiting lists, we may notify you during the summer. If that happens, you will have to make the decision without a visit to the school, so please make use of the Open House and/or In-school Information Sessions described above to inform yourself about our school. Be prepared to make a quick decision! Beginning in August and through the next school year, we will shorten the time for a decision to just two weekdays.

School Visits

If school is in session when you are offered a spot at the school, we can arrange for you and/or your child to visit a class. Please call the school to make these arrangements as soon as you can after you have been notified of an enrollment offer. There are no visits available during the summer, so again, please take advantage of our Open House and/or In-school Information Sessions.

Waiting Lists

Our waiting lists stay in effect through the entire school year. If we do not contact you before the start of the school year, we could offer your student a spot throughout the following school year. If you have been through the lottery and are on the waiting list, we will move your name to the list for the following school year. If you applied after the initial application deadline and have not gone through the lottery, your spot on the wait list will not carry over to the next year.

Available Spots

The Kindergarten class typically has the most openings, but we do not know yet how many. Siblings of existing students will fill some of the spaces. In other classes, there may be few to no spots available at the time of the lottery.

Siblings

Siblings of existing students get the top priority in the enrollment process. For newly applying students, if a sibling gains a spot, we will move other siblings up on the waiting list once all enrollment forms are complete and submitted for the first student.

The Eagle Charter School, tuition-free, public charter school of Salem, OR will not consider ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, disability, gender, income level, proficiency in the English language or athletic ability as factors in admission. (ORS 338.125 (3)) In accordance with state statute (ORS 338.125), age and grade will be the only admission criteria.
